We visited Limnoupolis Waterpark in Chania with our four year old in June 2025, and here’s our honest review, including what to expect, prices, and whether it’s worth visiting with kids. The park is just a 15 minute drive from Chania Old Town. It’s the perfect family day out, with slides and splash zones that worked well for our four year old and the adults in equal measure.

How to get to Limnoupolis Waterpark


We grabbed a taxi from our stay near Nea Chora beach, which cost around €15 one way. It was a quick and easy journey. If you’ve hired a car, there’s free parking right outside the entrance. There’s also a public bus option, but with a four year old, bags, towels, and suncream, a taxi was by far the easier choice!

If you’re visiting Limnoupolis during your Chania trip, staying nearby makes it much easier to enjoy without a long journey.

We stayed at Villa Giota, which was perfect for families, just a short taxi ride away and within walking distance of beaches and restaurants. You can read my full Villa Giota review.

What to expect

Entry was €25.50 for adults and €18 for our daughter. For larger families, it might be worth checking out organised Limnoupolis tickets or transport packages in advance, especially in peak season, as some include hotel pickup and skip the queue entry.

What we loved most? The park isn’t huge, which is a bonus when you’re wrangling little ones. We quickly got our bearings, found the lockers (€5, with €2 refunded), and popped on our waterproof wristbands that opened them.

We visited in June 2025 after researching family attractions in Chania. On the day we arrived just before 11am when the slides opened (the pools open at 10am). We were surprised by how quiet it was, with plenty of free loungers by the toddler splash area, which is ideal when you’re juggling bags and small kids. The toddler zone had mini slides, animal fountains, and even a shaded section for those midday rays.

Our four year old was obsessed with the zip line and even braved a few of the bigger slides (not all are suitable for small kids, but there’s definitely a good mix). The twisty slides and aqua loop were the biggest hits with thrill-seekers.

My personal favourite was the lazy river – just floating along in the sun while everyone else hurtled down slides felt like a reasonable trade.

One thing we didn’t get to but is worth knowing about: the Cave of Nerospilia, a small “water cave” feature inside the park with actual stalactites and stalagmites. If you’ve got older kids who might find yet another slide less exciting, it’s a nice bit of novelty to break things up.

Half-day tickets

If you’re not planning a full day, Limnoupolis also offers afternoon half-day tickets at the gate – typically €15.50 (2pm-5pm, until late June) or €17 (3pm-6pm during peak July/August). These aren’t available to pre-book online, so it’s cash or card at the entrance on the day. Worth considering if you’re planning a morning at the beach and just want a few hours of slides in the afternoon, or if you’re travelling with a toddler who won’t last a full eight hours in the sun anyway.

Tickets are priced by height rather than strict age – reduced price applies for anyone 110-155cm tall (which usually covers most primary-school-aged kids), and children under 110cm go free.

Food and Facilities

Food was better than expected, with snack bars and cafés dotted around serving everything from nuggets and chips to fresh Greek salads and souvlaki wraps. Prices were fair for a theme park, and we found a nice shaded spot near the main café. They even had cocktails (which looked very tempting… but I was pregnant at the time, so I gave them a miss!).

Changing rooms, toilets, and showers were clean and easy to access. The lockers were a nice touch too, especially with a waterproof wristband to keep things simple.

If you want to keep costs down, there’s a mini-market near the entrance selling snacks and drinks for less than the in-park cafés – worth a stop on your way in if you’re watching the budget.

What to bring to Limnoupolis

Here’s what we were glad we packed:

Swim shoes – the floor gets hot underfoot, especially for little ones.
Towels, hats and suncream for everyone.
Snacks and water bottles – they’re fine with small items, just don’t bring a full picnic.
Waterproof phone pouch – I didn’t bring one and majorly regretted it, especially in the lazy river!

Handy tips for Limnoupolis Waterpark

Arrive early for the best choice of sunbeds, especially in peak season.

Limited shade in the toddler zones, a mini parasol or pop-up shade tent can help.

Bring swim nappies – they do check on occasion.

Check the official website before you go; there are sometimes discount codes or package deals.

Is Limnoupolis Waterpark in Chania worth visiting?

If you’re in Chania with kids, Limnoupolis Waterpark is a brilliant day out. Our daughter was in her element from start to finish and had to be physically removed at the end of the day. We loved the relaxed vibe; it was fun without being overwhelming and just the right size to enjoy the whole day without feeling rushed.

You don’t need a plan; just turn up with your swimwear and see what takes your fancy. We’d go again in a heartbeat.

It definitely rates as a family attraction in Chania. It’s consistently rated as the best waterpark in Crete for families, and based on our visit, we wouldn’t argue with that. Limnoupolis Waterpark FAQs

We haven’t visited Rethymno ourselves, so we can’t speak to water parks there directly. Limnoupolis is based in Chania, about one hour from Rethymno – if you’re staying in that area, it may still be a worthwhile day trip, but it’s not on your doorstep the way it is for Chania visitors.
