Farmer Ted’s Adventure Farm – Ormskirk / Lancashire

Farmer Ted’s is one of the most popular farms near Liverpool for kids, and it’s easy to see why. This is a large adventure farm with so much to do that you can easily spend a full day there.
Unlike smaller petting farms, Farmer Ted’s runs full activity timetables with shows and demonstrations, meaning there’s always something happening throughout the day.
It’s also one of the more expensive farms locally, but that’s largely because of the huge range of facilities available.
The farm is very pram friendly, making it a great option for families visiting with babies or toddlers.
Farmer Ted’s also hosts a Christmas grotto each year, which is one of our favourites. I’ve written a full guide to the experience here.

Acorn Farm – Kirkby / Knowsley

Acorn Farm in Kirkby is very different from the big adventure farms, but that’s part of what makes it special.
This is a small charity run farm, and one of the things that stood out to us was that many of the staff working there have additional needs, which adds a really lovely community feel to the place.
It’s also one of the cheapest farms near Liverpool, making it a brilliant budget friendly family day out.
When we visited, we were incredibly lucky, lambs had been born just two days earlier, and because they were born during the day visitors had actually been able to watch the birth.
The animals were all out in the fields and very playful, which made the visit feel really lively.

Windmill Farm – Burscough / Lancashire

Windmill Farm is another great family farm near Liverpool, with a really nice mix of animal encounters and activities.
There are several petting areas where children can interact with animals, including rabbits and guinea pigs that are out for visitors to meet.
One of the highlights for us was the chance to bottle feed lambs, which was such a special experience for little ones.
There’s also a reptile area where children can hold snakes, which is something a bit different from most farms.
Overall it’s a decent size farm where you can comfortably spend the day, and we found it to be very good value for money.
