Enchanted at Knowsley Safari Park – A budget friendly Christmas light trail

Just so you know: This post contains affiliate links. If you click through and make a booking or purchase, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you.

Being Liverpool based, a visit to Enchanted at Knowsley Safari Park has become a bit of a festive tradition for us. It’s easily the most affordable of all the light trails we’ve done, and with it being so local (and packed with toddler friendly rides), it definitely ticks all the boxes for a family night out.

So, what is Enchanted?

Enchanted is Knowsley Safari’s evening Christmas event, a magical light trail that weaves its way through the Foot Safari. Expect glowing animals, twinkling trees, festive music, storytelling, marshmallow toasting and rides that light up after dark.

It’s smaller than some of the big Christmas light shows, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in value and fun, especially if you’ve got little ones in tow.

Where is it and when?

You’ll find Enchanted at Knowsley Safari Park in Prescot, Merseyside. It runs on weekends throughout the festive season, usually from late November right up to Christmas, with entry from around 4pm to 8pm.

Prices & Rides

Tickets start at £11 for standard entry and £9 for members, with under 3s and carers going free.

The real bonus here? The rides! You can buy individual fairground tokens for £1 each (some rides need 3 or 4 tokens), but if your toddler loves rides as much as ours does, the unlimited rides wristband at £14 per child is definitely worth it.

Our Family Experience

We always try to arrive early to make the most of the quieter Foot Safari light trail before it gets too busy. The trail is packed with glowing reindeer, illuminated penguins, and even talking trees, all set to gentle festive tunes floating through the air.

There are actors dressed in glowing costumes dotted along the route, keeping little ones entertained, and of course, the marshmallow toasting stations (included in your ticket) were a big hit, because what’s Christmas without toasted marshmallows?

The Santa Panto shows run at intervals throughout the evening, and they’re genuinely lovely, our toddler couldn’t take her eyes off the stage!

Then came the highlight, the rides! We went for the unlimited wristbands, and she was straight on the merry go rounds, pirate ship spins, and dodgems. Truth be told, the rides probably kept her entertained longer than the light trail itself.

We didn’t book the grotto here as we had one booked elsewhere, but it’s an option you can pre-book when you buy your tickets. The grotto visit includes a meet and greet with Santa and a little gift to take home.

After another round of marshmallow toasting (and a hot chocolate for us), we headed home, all wrapped up and done before 7pm, perfect timing to avoid an overtired toddler meltdown!

Facilities & Food

There’s free parking on-site, plenty of toilets and baby changing facilities, and food kiosks selling festive treats and hot drinks. And of course, don’t miss the marshmallows for toasting over the big glowing fire pits.

Is it Worth It?

Absolutely. It’s a cosy, manageable festive evening with just the right amount of lights, fun, and rides, all without the hefty price tag or long walks. Ideal for younger families or if you’re looking for something short, sweet, and stress-free.

How it compares

We’ve visited a few light trails now, so here’s how Enchanted stacks up:

Enchanted at Knowsley – The smallest and by far the cheapest, packed with toddler rides and a manageable light trail.

Bolesworth – Much bigger, with rides and entertainment, but pricier.

The Magical Woodland – The most magical in terms of lights, with a slower, woodland setting, but fewer rides.

If you want a quick, affordable festive evening with rides and lights, Knowsley wins hands down. For a longer, more twinkly experience with rides, Bolesworth is your spot. And if you fancy woodland magic without the crowds, Magical Woodland is hard to beat.

Would we go again?

Definitely, it’s affordable, local, toddler friendly, and just the right amount of festive fun to keep everyone happy (and still home for bedtime!).
